Abstract:
Spicker (1992) reported about the construction and first implementation of a production controlling system (PCS). This project became a major success - after it had been substantially changed by the participating entrepreneurs.
The new system now controls all important routine work of the daily management e.g. handling packing orders, the management of empty boxes, the acquisition of inputs and many other tasks.
Only problems that are well structured and clearly described can be handled by formal decision procedures as provided by the system described above.
By doing as much work as possible with help of computerized aids, the farmers are free to apply their attention to the badly structured complex problems. (The author argues that the results show the farm managers are right to do so.)
