Ornithogalum candicans [syn. Galtonia candicans (Decne.)] (Baker) J.C. Manning & Goldblatt, cape hyacinth, is a white flowering bulbous species native to South Africa.
The large, white flowers attract a diverse set of pollinators providing pollen and nectar throughout the growing season.
While it blooms profusely from early June until frost in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, there has been only one cultivar, ‘Moonbeam’ (Hammett and Murray, 1993), introduced to the market.
Typically, the species is seed-propagated for sale in nurseries.
