Abstract:
In the period 1997-2001, a study was conducted in the Plovdiv fruit-growing region on the species composition, population dynamics and economic injury levels of Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera insects damaging fruits of plum trees grown under different farming systems (integrated and biological). A total of 6 insect species were established. Two of them - Black Plum Sawfly Hoplocampa minuta Christ. and Yellow Plum Sawfly Hoplocampa flava L. (Tenthridinidae), belonged to order Hymenoptera and four - Red Plum Maggot Grapholitha (Laspeyresia) funebrana Tr., Oriental Fruit Moth Grapholitha (Laspeyresia) molesta Busck. and Codling Moth Laspeyresia (Carpocapsa) pomonella L. (Tortricidae), as well as Peach Twig Borer Anarsia lineatella Z. (Gelechiidae) belonged to Lepidoptera. The plum sawflies were found in mixed populations. Their density and damage caused in orchards grown by biological systems of farming were significantly higher. Among the fruit worms, G. funebrana causes higher damages on the fruit, while the rank of damages caused by G. molesta, L. pomonella and A. lineatella are insignificant. The comparative analysis made between the two pest groups shows that the plum sawflies cause a higher percentage of damages on the fruits.
