Abstract:
The phytoplasma disease lethal yellowing could not be prevented by planthopper vector control or tetracycline treatment.
Resistance of Malayan Dwarf coconut palms has been incorporated successfully into tall coconut palms, curtailing losses in the Caribbean area, but not in Africa.
Additional breeding with Malaysia and Sarawak palms is suggested.
The viroid disease cadang-cadang has caused catastrophic loses in the Philippines and Guam.
No resistant palms have been detected.
To prevent further spread of the disease decontamination with calcium hypochloride solution of machetes used by plantation workers is recommended.
