Abstract:
By detailing how and when a cultivar name may be used, published or changed, the International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants provides a means of ensuring stable, uniform and accurate names.
The Code cannot ensure the correct identification of a plant and this paper details the advantages of creating a recognised system of standard specimens for cultivated plants and the idea of creating "standard portfolios" is introduced.
