Abstract:
Male sterile line 4A and its maintainer line 4B of Welsh onion (A. fistulosum L. var gigantum Makino) were obtained through 4 generations by using test - crossing - back - crossing and pollen parents selfing method with sterile plants found in "Zhangqiu" cultiver being male sterility source.
The sterile plant rate of sterile line and fertile plant rate of maintainer line were more than 95%, with 4A being maternal line, hybrids with significant yield heterosis 4A x Zhou2–2, 4A x Long6–1 were successfully bred, surpassing check cultivar in yield 24.9% and 83.8% respectively.
