Abstract:
An approach to modeling, measurement and control of a plant tissue culture ecosystem and its environment is introduced. State and rate variables are defined to express, respectively, stocks and flows of mass and energy, using terminology of systems ecology. Usefulness of dynamic simulation of a plant tissue culture ecosystem is discussed with some examples, with respect to optimization of the ecosystem and its environment. Advantages of photoautotrophic tissue culture with use of a pathogen-free micro-hydroponic system are presented. Measurement and control systems for tissue culture ecosystems are briefly described with special reference to chlorophyllous cultures.
