Author:   W.J. Legutko
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1992.325.93
Abstract:
For over 20 years a breeding programme has been carried out with the aim to obtain new dahlia (Dahlia x cultorum hort.) and tuberous begonia (Begonia x tuberhybrida Voss.) cultivars in the Division of Ornamental Plant Breeding in Smolice (Western Poland). As a result of this work 31 new dahlia and 8 new begonia cultivars have been registered. The main effort in dahlia breeding was focussed on creating new medium tall varieties, whereas in begonia breeding it lied on obtaining F1 hybrids.
