Abstract:
Using 11 strains of different origins the sensitivity of Erwinia amylovora to high temperatures (30°C, 35°C, 38°C, 40°C) was tested. A rapid decline of the bacterial population occurred at temperatures higher than 30°C and all bacteria were killed after 23h at 40°C. Harmful effects on non-infected pome fruit scions incubated at 38°C, 95% relative humidity, were observed after 5 days. First investigations with Erwinia amylovora infected plant material showed a certain letal effect on the pathogen inside plant tissues at this range of temperatures.
