Abstract:
Saffron is a product of high commercial value (up to $5000/kg) (Allan et al. 1985) and in vitro propagation of this plant can be useful.
The natural reproduction rate of new corms by conventional culture practice is quite low.
Nevertheless, as for many other species, in vitro techniques can considerably improve the production of new corms in a much shorter time.
