ISHS Acta Horticulturae 190: Symposium on Tomato Production on Arid Land

TOMATO SETTING GROWN IN UNHEATED GREEN HOUSE

Authors:   D. AISSA, K. BENNA
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1986.190.56
Abstract:
Three techniques for the improvement of the tomato fruit setting in unheated green houses have been tried on four varieties raised in Cap-Bon area (North-east of Tunisia).

The "Montfavet H 63–5" ."Vémone", "Noria" and "Elcy" varieties have had almost identical behaviours, since the setting rate of the 1st and 2nd trusses, the early production and the total production proved to be the same except for "Vémone", the 2nd truss of which has better set than the other ones. That better setting has had no effect on the production.

When we consider the different techniques for setting improvement (vibration, hormons application and vibration-hormons), we notice that hormons application and vibration, which gave the same result, allow a 100 % increase of the early production compared to the control. That increase is reduced to 10 % when the total production is taken into account.
