Abstract:
As a crucial type of urban green space, botanical gardens are in a position to influence the development of urban gardens in a way that is sympathetic to regional characteristics. To do this it is necessary to consider comprehensively the scientific and cultural nature of the exhibition system. This should reflect the natural habitat locally and embrace the cultural aspects of the region, such as the socio-economic and technological situation. We highlight the characteristics of seven botanic gardens across China: Beijing BG, Shenyang Arboretum, Shanghai Chenshan BG, South China BG, Turpan Desert BG, Wuhan BG, and Xishuangbanna Tropical BG. In their landscapes, these BG reflect not only the unique floristic features but also cultural flavours (historical, urban, humanistic) of the locality and serve as an important educational resource for the community.
