Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate basic pomological and biological characteristics of plum cultivars introduced into the Banja Luka region. The experimental plum orchard is located in the municipality of Prijedor, at the locality of Lake Gradina (210 m altitude). Research was performed on cultivars ‘Katinka’, ‘Hanita’, ‘Top 2000’ and ‘Elena’. As a control we used cultivar ‘Stanley’. The experimental orchard was established in the spring of 2002, using 2-year-old nursery trees (Knip type). The training system was the spindle. Planting density was 4.5 m between rows and 2.5 m within rows. All cultivars were grafted on seedlings of cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera Ehrh.). Research was performed during the period from 2007 to 2009. Pomological characteristics included investigations of fruit genotypic specificities. We analysed the morphological, organoleptic and other properties in their interaction with the agro-ecological conditions under which the cultivars were introduced. Years in which research was performed had a significant influence on the characteristics of the tested cultivars. Genotypic specificity was expressed, regardless of the study year. This study presents one segment of the integrated evaluation of tested cultivars for the possibility of their introduction and further expansion in the Banja Luka region.
