ISHS Acta Horticulturae 120: Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

GROWTH RETARDANTS AND ROOT SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT OF APPLE TREES

Authors:   S. Stan, M. Cotorobai
DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1981.120.54
Abstract:
The investigations were carried out in a very high density orchard (2770 trees/ha) of apple cv. Golden Delicious on MM.106, established in 1973.

From 1974 to 1978 the orchard was sprayed annually with daminozide, 3000 ppm being applied in 1974 and 2000 ppm in each of the subsequent years. Some trees were left untreated. In the fifth year the root distribution in the soil of one treated and one comparable untreated tree was investigated. After digging up the trees the distribution of fresh weight between the tree canopy, the trunk and the roots was determined.
