This study assesses the floral diversity provided by allotment gardens (AGs) in Manchester, UK, and Poznań, Poland.
Poznań AGs cover eight times as much urban land surface as those in Manchester and demonstrate a preference for ornamental flower gardens as opposed to vegetable cultivation.
The study of the spontaneous vascular flora present in the paths and verges of AGs provides insights into their ecological quality, which is higher than that of urban parks.
