Abstract:
Lilium ×formolongi is a white trumpet lily hybrid with the characteristic of flowering within a year after sowing.
The flowering induction mechanism and molecular regulatory method of L. ×formolongi seedlings are still unclear.
Most growth and development of L. ×formolongi seedlings occur under a 12 h or greater photoperiod in a typical growth environment.
Thus photoperiod may be important in triggering flowering transitions in this plant.
Through the investigation of growth and flowering traits of L. ×formolongi seedlings under different natural and manual photoperiod conditions, the results indicate that long day conditions were critical for the flowering induction and transition of L. ×formolongi seedlings.
Moreover, CONSTANS (CO) ortholog LfCOL9 and FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) ortholog LfFT1 were obtained through homologous cloning from L. ×formolong. The two orthologs may play important roles in the photoperiodic flowering pathway of L. ×formolong. This study may serve as the foundation to investigate the mechanism of the photoperiodic flowering pathway in L. ×formolongi seedlings.
Furthermore, it may be helpful for accelerating the culture of L. ×formolongi cut flowers and in breeding seed-propagated lily hybrids.
