Abstract:
To sell more Australian and South African Proteaceae and other Australian wildflowers on the Australian domestic market, we must consider the many opportunities and the complexities that this market presents. I will attempt in this paper to help growers become more aware of the opportunities that exist, particularly in the Sydney Flower Market. Who are the growers, wholesalers, importers, florists, chain store buyers and others that frequent the market? When are the peak selling periods and when are the difficult selling periods? Where are the opportunities in this busy market place? How important is grading and quality? What are the issues limiting growth in our sector of the flower industry? What are some of the crops that growers should consider growing? Lastly, I will discuss some of the promotional and education activities that I have been involved in and consider their importance.
