| Abstract:
Cashew, a commercial and export earning crop of the country, is gaining importance in international trade and consumption. Presently, cashew is grown in an area of 8.68 lakh ha with an annual production of 6.65 lakh tons of raw cashew nuts in the country. The demand is ever increasing for kernels in domestic and international markets. Stiff competition is felt from countries like Brazil and recently Vietnam, which has tripled its production of cashew nuts in a decade. So, it is important and need of the hour to double the cashew nut production in the country to compete with other cashew growing countries of the world. A large number of technologies namely nutrient management, canopy management, intercropping, irrigation including drip irrigation, soil and water conservation techniques, high density planting system, pruning technique, rejuvenation of senile orchards, insect pest management, etc., have been developed and are available to farmers and the details about the technologies will be presented in this paper. | |
