Abstract:
The factors controlling water loss from lettuce plants grown in nutrient film are related to observations on a crop of cv.
Ostenata grown during spring and summer of 1979. Plants grown in nutrient solutions of a range of concentrations showed no significant differences in fresh or dry weight, leaf area or number.
Water use was linearly related to incident radiation and did not differ significantly between plants grown in the different nutrient concentrations use.
However, the different nutrient concentrations significantly affected percentage leaf dry matter and susceptibility to marginal tipburn.
