Abstract:
The research was conducted at University Department of Horticulture, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. The experiment was laid out in FCRD (Factorial Completely Randomized Design) with three replications. In all, there were three different ages of rootstock i.e., 8, 9 and 10 months old, and soft wood grafting was carried out at four different times i.e., 1st week of December, 3rd week of December, 1st week of January and 3rd week of January. A local cultivar was used as the rootstock and ‘NA-7’ was used as scion. Observations on time of shoot growth and on various growth parameters were made. The minimum number of days for shoot formation from the graft was from grafting performed on 8-month-old rootstock (26.8 days) with grafts made in the 1st week of January (23.18 days). Maximum grafting success was recorded in grafting with 8-months-old rootstock (77%) grafted in the 1st week of January (77.8%). Stock:scion ratio was found in between 1.09 and 1.15. Maximum shoot height was obtained from grafting performed on 10-month-old root¬stock (23.1 cm) grafted in the 3rd week of December (22.8 cm). Maximum number of leaves per shoot was recorded from grafting performed on 8-months-old rootstock (5.7) grafted in the 1st week of December (7.0).
