THE USE OF MICRO-COMPUTERS ON NURSERIES

Author:   J.H. Dempster
Abstract:
In September 1978 a PET mini-computer made by Commodore was acquired by the Management Section of the Guernsey Horticultural Advisory Service. Programs have been written for the machine to provide:
  • Accounts analysis
  • Crop plans and budgets
  • Crop analysis

In the experimental section of the Advisory Service the machine has been programmed to check glasshouse temperatures. The object has been to ascertain how an inexpensive mini-computer might help the nurseryman to run his business.

The paper describes the configuration of the mini-computer, the programs so far devised and discusses how the grower may use the machine.
