Abstract:
Changes in farm organization and productivity of apple orchards in 80 farms in the Carpathian foothills were investigated in 1974–1975. The great differences were determined in the productivity of investigated farms.
Yields of apples varied from 1 to 50 tons/ha.
Average yield/ha over three yeard period was lower than 4.5 tons in three farms, above 19.5 tons in four farms and it varied from 9.5 to 19.5 in the remaining 73 farms.
The greatest effect on the yield quantity and productivity of the farms had an enterprise of the farmer and then natural conditions.
Furtermore, a close correlation was found among the enterprise, knowledge and level of live of the farmers.
The most economic in the foothill conditions, both at present and in the nearest future, seem to be farms with 5–7 ha fruit orchards.
