Abstract:
This paper will sketch a picture of the productivity developments in Dutch horticulture under glass (excluding potted plants) in the period 1972–1977. So as to be able to follow these developments, the values of returns and costs from year to year are compared.
The developments in these values (indices) can be divided into price and quantitative developments.
In order to be able to measure the influence of the quantitative movements the price effect is eliminated from the values of the year under review.
When we then compare the values of the year under review and the base year, the result is the quantitative movements.
From year to year changes occur in the quantities and in the ratios of the quantities of factors of production utilized.
Changes also occur in the ratios of the quantities of factors of production (input) to the quantities of product produced (output). These changing ratios of quantities of factors of production utilized and quantities of yields are called productivity developments.
