Abstract:
A preliminary study of the essential oils of Leocus africanus and Alvesia rosmarinifolia revealed the importance of sesquiterpenes in the air dried plants of the two genus.
Using column chromatography and gas liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, we identify monoterpens, sesquiterpens and oxygenated substances.
The two major components of the two essential oils are caryophyllene and humulene.
Their taxonomic significance is considered.
