CHEMICAL AND TOXICOLOGICAL STUDY OF ANCHOMANES DIFFORMIS (ENGL.)

Authors:   L. TCHIAKPE, G. BALANSARD, P. BERNARD, M. PLACIDI
Abstract:
This chemical study of Anchomanes difformis is based in solvent/solvent separations, TLC, and column chromatography particularly the low pressure preparative chromatography (PLC). The toxicological essays are carried out essentially by gastric tubage in Guinea-pigs and mice.

Not toxic for mice, the lyophilized rhizome is very toxic for Guinea-pigs. We have shown off the toxicity of the global fraction Al but can't indentify the toxic compound. The heamorragic troubles may be partly due to enormous raphides of calcium oxalate containing in very specific cells that can be found in the powder.

The toxicity and the heamorragic troubles are highly attenuated after boiling for long time.
