CONTENT AND COMPOSITION OF THE ESSENTIAL OIL IN FLOWER HEADS OF MATRICARIA CHAMOMILLA L. DURING ITS ONTOGENETICAL DEVELOPMENT

Author:   Ch. Franz
Abstract:
By means of four camomile cultivars the ontogenetic variability of the essential oil was investigated. The highest oil content was found in fully developed flowers approximately one week after beginning of flowering. The composition of the essential oil depended on the stage of development. Flower buds contained more hydrocarbons and (-)-alpha-bisabolol, whereas - according to the development of the flowers - chamazulene and the (-)-alpha-bisabololoxides increased. The content of enin-dicycloethers correlated with the relative part of the receptacle.
