Abstract:
Calcium and nitrogen are both essential nutients for the growth and well-being of all plants.
In spite of the emphasis on these two elements separately, interactions between the two are known to occur and the nutritional balance of the tree must always be considered.
This paper deals with sources of calcium and nitrogen for fruit trees and their effects on fruit quality via reactions in the soil and root-soil interactions.
Detailed accounts have previously been given concerning calcium and nitrogen sources (Greene and Smith, 1979), soil effects (Kirkby, 1979) and cultural effects (Perring, 1979; Slowik, 1979; Wiersum, 1979).
