ISHS Acta Horticulturae 91: Symposium on Growth Regulators in Floriculture

INFLUENCE OF CCC ON GROWTH AND FLOWERING OF GREENHOUSE AZALEAS

Author:   J. Krause
Abstract:
Investigations of the effect of H-140/CCC/ on growth and flowering of greenhouse azaleas have shown the possibility to make use of this growth retardant in practice. Six weeks after the last pinching one-year-old plants of cvs. Mrs John Haerens and Vervaeneana Salmonea were planted into 12 cm pots. Peat substrate was mixed earlier with H-140 in amount 2 g or 4 g per 1 litre. After the next 6 weeks some plants were treated with water solution of H-140 in concentration 1 % or 2 % - 100 ml per pot. The best results were obtained when the substrate contained the lower amount of retardant and plants were also treated with CCC as a drench. The higher amount of H-140 caused the delay of flowering in both cultivars. Furthermore, it reduced the diameter of flowers cv. Mrs John Haerens and even caused dropping of buds cv. Vervaeneana Salmonea.
