POLARITY OF IAA-1-14C TRANSLOCATION IN TULIPS AS RELATED TO SHOOT GROWTH

Authors:   M. Saniewski, L. Banasik, R. Antoszewski, A. Lukaszewska
Abstract:
It was found that when IAA-1-14C was applied in the middle of second indernode of tulip after removing all leaves and flower bud, radioactivity was detected in internodes both below and above the place of application, but no elongation of internodes above the place of treatment was observed in contrast to internodes situated below treatment. The fact that acropetally transported IAA did not induce internode growth may mean that it was a passive diffusion transport of IAA and that only basipetal, polar transport of auxin is connected with induction of internode growth.
