Abstract:
Virus ecology is concerned with the study of how a virus is perpetuated under natural conditions.
Maintenance of the virus is the result of complex interactions of several factors such as the virus strains, the vectors, the virus-hosts (weeds and susceptible crops), the agricultural practice and the environment.
The subject has been recently reviewed by several authors e.g.: Stevens 1960, Swenson 1968, Broadbent 1969, Duffus 1971, Tresh 1974 and 1976, Berger 1977 and Zitter 1977.
In this paper, the ecology of a non-persistent virus of vegetable crops was studied by a three year study of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) in vegetable crop fields located in the Avignon area of southern Rhône valley of France (Quiot et al., 1979a).
