ISHS Acta Horticulturae 87: Symposium on Potential Productivity in Protected Cultivation

LATENT HEAT OF WATER FOR COOLING AND DEHUMIDIFYING VENTILATION IN GREENHOUSES

Authors:   Y. Mihara, M. Hayashi
Abstract:
Design standards for both the fog and fan cooling system and a newly developed dehumidifying ventilation system are discussed.

In order to determine ventilation rates and supplementary evaporation rates for the fog and fan system in greenhouses, VETH-curves method will be proposed. The VETH-curves are derived from enthalpy calculation under three conditions; outdoor climatic conditions, inside net radiation and ventilation rates.

An example of design and its criteria are also presented for a dehumidifying ventilation system, which has been developed for preventing condensation in greenhouses without any excessive heating but using latent and sensible heats contained in the interior air.
