SPECTRAL DEPENDENCE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS IN CROP PLANTS |

| Abstract:
Photosynthetic action spectra for unit energy incident showed almost the same curve in all 33 species tested, except in the ultraviolet and blue regions where the relative action was significantly lower in arboreous than in herbaceous plants. Enhancement spectrum for photosystem(PS) II had pronounced peaks at about 480 and 650 nm and that for PS I had a peak at about 715 nm. Enhancement of total light action gave the maximum when 658 and 715-nm lights were given at the same time with nearly equal intensity. The enhancement phenomenon could be observed when a long-wave light (beyond 680 nm) was added to a short-wave light (400–680 nm). Photosynthetic rates under colored plastic films were higher in red film but lower in green and blue films as compared with that of unfiltered control. | |
