HIGH EFFICIENT STARCH PRODUCTION WITH SINGLE LEAF AND NODE CUTTING CULTURE OF SWEET POTATO

Abstract:
Single leaf and node cutting culture of sweet potato have been examined. Since the single leaf or node cuttings do not have any growing point, highly efficient starch production may be possible in practical use.

Starch production is fairly proportional to the amount of solar radiation, if any other factors are not involved, and becomes around 45 g.F.W./50 days/leaf = 225mg.D.W./day/leaf in summer when the solar radiation intensity is high. On the other hand, the production by common vine cutting is around 3 g.F.W./150 days/leaf. By dense planting, it is possible to expect a starch production per unit area 25 times as much as that of common vine cutting culture.
