ISHS Acta Horticulturae 86: Symposium on Fireblight

INOCULATIONS WITH ERWINIA AMYLOVORA UNDER CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Authors:   J.P. Paulin, G. Lachaud
Abstract:
Comparative inoculations of Erwinia amylovora on various Rosaceous plants show that Cotoneaster salicifolius grown from seeds give very good results for the diagnosis of fireblight.

With the use of different 'inoculation methods it is possible to detect differences in susceptibility among varieties or cultivars, but correlation with field susceptibility has yet to be established.

Inoculations can be successful even at low constant temperature (15°C). Temperature and relative humidity are not the only factors governing exudate or strand production.
