COMPARISON AMONG 4 ROOTSTOCKS FOR THE APRICOT |

| Abstract:
The choice of the rootstock in the apricot culture is a problem not yet completely solved. In Italy the rootstocks actually more spread are myrabolan seedling and apricot seedling; less important are some prunes and the peach (1,23). The researches about the rootstocks evaluation related to the environment and to the variety are numerous, but the suggestions that come from are good only for the conditions in which it has been worked. Myrabolan, seedling or clonal, is used both directly (6,9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23) and with P. domestica interstock (9, 15, 16). Prunus domestica has a good performance also when is used directly as rootstock (2, 17, 18, 20, 21). Apricot seedling, generally gives positiv results except in heavy or humid soils (2, 11, 12, 18, 22, 24). Some cases of incompatibility of apricot on apricot seedling were ascribed to virus diseases (3). Peach has very good performance with some varieties, bad with others (13, 14, 19, 21, 22). Generally speaking, apricot seedling is recommended for poor soils, dry, stony and without water stagnation (26), myrabolan is adapted both to dry and stony soils (26) and relatively humid (6, 8), peach gives the best performance in fresh soils, fertile, sandy-clay (8, 26). | |
