| Abstract:
In Syria, most old stone fruit orchards were planted around the towns and villages for easy transport of the produce. A wide range of rootstock combinations are available for - selection for stone fruits (1, 2, 3). Myrobalan seedling can be used as rootstock for several apricot varieties in Italy, Spain, France, and California when soil condition are wet. St. Julien plum can be used if a small tree is required, and is recommended at present in France for gages, apricot, peach and nectarines. Peach seedling rootstocks are used in South Africa for apricot and plum trees that are to be planted in sandy soil. Apricot seedling rootstocks are used in Syria for -- plum trees when planted in a soil affected with nematodes. Almond seedling rootstocks are used in Israel and Syria for apricot and plum trees when planted in poor, dry, stony soils where calcium is very high and where soils are affected with insect pest capnodis (4). | |
