Abstract:
The need of slowing down the incidence of fungal infections in the strawberry production sector and the urge for natural means to control these pathogens have led us to consider the production of natural compounds from plant extracts capable of inducing a specific defence response (“elicitors”). New elicitors obtained by a biotechnological production process of polysaccharide libraries followed by a quick molecular analysis and “screening” of these compounds are currently being studied. These natural means against fungal diseases avoid or minimize the application of chemical treatments, thus promoting the ecological feature of the farming, which makes the product more competitive on the international market.
