Abstract:
The success of most plant improvement programs largely depends upon the genetic variability and the heritability of desirable traits. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of 136 ‘Dongzao’ × ‘Linyilizao’ (D×L) offspring at florescence. Especially, large variability was observed for number of bearing shoot with flower (NBSF) per tree, flower number per bearing shoot with flower (F/BS), and number of bearing shoot per tree (NBS) in descending order. Their coefficients of variation were between 0.5-0.8. Flower diameter (FD), honey disk diameter (HDD), length of stamen (LS), length of pistil (LP), and pollen fertility (PF) presented a certain extent of segregation in the population, but their mean values were far lower than their parents were. Distribution types of all 13 traits were single-peak distribution, and these traits showed continuous variability that was in accordance with the normal distribution of frequencies. Analysis results of correlation coefficient showed that a significant positive correlation existed among most traits.
