Abstract:
At temperatures of 15 and 20°C, one year old seeds of 22 lettuce varieties germinated over 90%. The upper limit of the optimum germination temperature range lies between 20 and 25°C for the majority of varieties.
This upper limit seems modifiable by ecological factors during seed maturation.
In addition, ecological factors influence the effect of Gibberellic Acid and Thiourea.
The pre-treatment of achenes at low temperatures, prior to sowing at high soil temperatures cannot yet be recommended.
An extension of the optimum germination temperature range was determined after harvest, i.e. following 2.5 and 4 years storage time.
