Abstract:
Some recent problems caused by seed-borne organisms are reviewed, together with precautions that can be taken during seed production.
The advantages of prevention and isolation are emphasized.
Diseases should be looked for in the earliest stages of breeding and multiplication, when control measures are most easily applied.
Some uses and limitations of tests on seeds, field inspections and certification procedures are outlined.
