Abstract:
The essential oil of Schinus molle L., obtained from plants growth in Algeria, was investigated by GC, GC/MS. The main components were alpha-phellandrene (26.5%), limonene (8.6%), ß-phellandrene (12.4%), elemol (10.8%) and alpha- eudesmol (6.1%). Furthermore, the essential oil exhibited antibacterial activity using the microdilution broth method against two Gram-(+) bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes) and two Gram-(-) bacteria (Escherichia coli, Vibrio vulnificus).
