PHYSIOLOGICAL STATUS OF APPLES AS RELATED TO THEIR SINK POWER

Authors:   T. Kállay, E. Szűcs
Keywords:   senescent disorders, mineral nutrition, morbidity
Abstract:
Data of a formerly presented fertilization trial were re-arranged to make apples of different physiological status be characterised with nutritional relations. Fruits of similar morbidity in senescence disorders were grouped in classes. Due to local environmental conditions, a high calcium content is a regular property of fruits in this country. Data suggest that increased sink power of apples may be correlated to storage potential, and the increased sink power changed the N/P ratio and K/Ca ratio in a reverse manner in leaves and fruits. As the fruit lose in their physiological status, an increase of N/P ratios met with a decrease of K/Ca ratios in fruits, and vice versa, the fruit storage life was negatively correlated to decreased N/P ratios and increasing K/Ca ratios in leaves.
