Abstract:
The investigation includes 38 plum (Prunus domestica L.) elites and aimed to evaluate their reaction to plum pox virus under high natural infection pressure. The estimation of the symptoms on the leaves and on the fruits was determined visually by a five grade scale, four consecutive years. The ELISA test was performed for a proof of PPV infection. The studied elites it have been divided into 8 groups on the basis of the scale used. According to the results obtained, the elites observed could be classified in five groups. It was found that elite 6-5 showed field resistance to PPV. The elite reacted with very mild symptoms on the leaves and up to now symptoms on the fruits it have not been recorded. A high field tolerance was observed in elite 5-77, which reacted with very mild symptoms both on the leaves and on the fruits. Mottles on the fruits are only on the skin and did not cause internal damages. Both mentioned elites have good fruit quality. Twenty four of the elites under study were determined as tolerant. Six elites were classified as susceptible. All the rest of the genotypes reacted with severe leaf symptoms and internal fruit damages and they were determined as highly susceptible.
