THE GREEN MANURE – AN IMPORTANT FACTOR FOR BIOLOGICAL PLUM PRODUCTION

Authors:   I. Vitanova, N. Marinova, S. Dimkova
Keywords:   cover crops, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, humus, yield
Abstract:
In the period 2003-2006 the effect of green manure with winter forage peas and a peas-rye mixture in a plum orchard was studied. The green manure influenced positively the humus content, a very important element of the soil fertility. The quantity of the mobile forms of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the soil of experimental plots with green manure was optimized in favor of the plum trees development. Their yield, without mineral fertilizers, was large – 15.6 t/ha for the variant with winter forage peas and 16.2 t/ha for the variant with the peas-rye mixture. The content of sugars, dry matter and organic acids in the fruits was optimal. The green manure with winter forage peas and the peas-rye mixture is very suitable for biological plum production.
