Abstract:
The rate of growth of the terminal shoots of well-lit branches and the differentiation of flower buds on the spurs disposed on the second year part of these branches in 18-20-year-old trees of the apple cultivars ‘Golden Resistant’ and ‘Starkrimson’ on seedling and some clonal rootstocks, were monitored in the period 2003-2005. The onset of the morphological differentiation of the buds was observed during the period from the weakening of the shoot growth until their full growth termination.
The rootstocks, irrespective of their characteristics regarding the growth and fruiting, did not influence the time of cessation of the shoot growth and the onset of the morphological differentiation of flower buds on the spurs.
