Abstract:
Seven Turkish hazelnut (Corylus colurna L.) forms were studied during 2001-2003 in the RCSAS - Kardjali.
Morphological characteristics of mother trees’ leaves and nuts were done and growth vigor of the seedlings was followed.
Based on the results obtained the following conclusions could be done: In the seedling plot the seedlings of forms 4/26 and 5/23 were poorly vigorous in comparison to forms 3/7, 18/17 and 15/7 which appear to be suitable for grafting already at the end of the first year.
Poorly vigorous (4/26, 5/23) as well as moderately vigorous forms (1/10 and 29/17) could be applied as rootstocks in nursery grafted with equal in growth vigor hazelnut varieties so that any occurrence of early incompatibility could be spotted.
Seeds of forms 3/7, 18/17 and 15/7 appear to be suitable for planting material for forestation and civic planting schemes.
