Author:   T. Karadeniz
Keywords:   nuts, world production, hazelnut
Abstract:
When the nuts are described, the first species to remember are hazelnut, walnut, almond, pistachio and chestnut. Besides these fruit species some hard-crusted species known as nuts are available. But they are not accepted as much as the others in the world market. Today the major five species are extensively grown in different countries around the world. The countries where the nuts mentioned above are grown extensively have a strategic power and make their power felt in the world markets. For instance, the USA with 818.100 tons of almond, Iran with 305.000 tons of pistachio, Turkey with 490.000 tons of hazelnut, China with 715.000 tons of walnut and 715.000 tons of chestnut are able to keep the qualification of the most powerful producer countries in the world.
