MORPHOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PLUM FORMS OF THE CULTIVAR TYPE OF KYUSTENDILSKA SINYA SLIVA

Abstract:
In the past, in our country the main cultivar in plum production was ‘Kyustendilska Sinya Sliva’. Palatability of its fruits having multiple purpose has not been surpassed till now. It found favourable soil-climatic conditions for development in the region of the Central Balkan Mountains, the region where the study was conducted. The appearance and dissemination of plum pox strongly limited its areas. Now fruit production with this cultivar is possible only in regions without infection sources and orchards established with healthy planting material. The long growing and propagation by shoots and stones, as well as the role of the folk breeder led to enrichment of genetic diversity of forms and differentiation of the cultivar type of ‘Kyustendilska Sinya Sliva’. In this region, 30 local cultivars and forms of it were found and studied. They are characterized by a different time of fruit ripening: from early September to early October. Their fruit weight varies from 12,7 tо 36,3 g for Kyustendilska B 2. All of them are freestone, only ‘Kasna Sinya’ is semi-freestone.
