EFFECT OF VARIETY, HARVEST DATE AND IRRIGATION CUTOFF ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF PROCESSING TOMATOES

Authors:   D.M. May, B.R. Hanson
Keywords:   processing tomatoes, varieties, quality, drip irrigation
Abstract:
Experiments were conducted on the west side of the San Jaoquin Valley on the effect of variety, harvest date, and irrigation cutoff time on the yield and quality of processing tomato. Ten commercial varieties were evaluated; harvest dates were Aug. 8 and Aug. 23; irrigation cutoff dates were Aug. 1 and Aug. 14. Delayed harvest increased yield, but generally reduced quality. Earlier irrigation cutoff increased solids but decreased yield.
