Abstract:
The Tomato 2000 Association comprises of 8 canneries, 4 nurseries and 110 growers having a Research and Development Program to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the production of tomatoes for processing in Argentina. The association has applied systematic competence principles over the past 10 years into the value chain; however, some difficulties to achieve their quality objectives have been detected. This paper defines a series of basic activities to achieve the objectives and targets of the association. The model focuses on the participation of all members of the association, continuously references the strategic plan, designs new activities and makes the appropriate new proposals. The model includes three strategic goals: improvement of the transference of technology, improvement of the satisfaction of its member customers and finally, improvement in the accumulation of knowledge and training opportunities. For each of the goals, cause and effect diagrams are discussed by the quality committee of the association. Finally, each strategic objective with their corresponding indicators are presented to check the fulfillment of the planning process including reviewing and updating it. The quality managing system involves two improvement cycles per year made by the management board, each one with two internal auditors.
